On This Day in 2000 … Goals from Neal Ardley and Damien Francis gave the Dons their first home win of the season with a routine victory against Stockport County. Wimbledon were in the midst of an inconsistent start to their first season in the second tier since 1986, and this win would be their last in the league at Selhurst Park until January. A certain Kevin Cooper featured for the visitors. Footage of the game does not appear available online, but a decent collection of other games from that season can be found on YouTube.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers was the Dons third consecutive league victory. It is the first time Wimbledon have won three consecutive matches in the third tier since the 2020-21 season. Omar Bugiel (11′) and Steve Seddon (32′) scored their first league goals of the campaign to keep Wycombe winless at Plough Lane since 1957, despite a consolation goal from Ewan Henderson on the hour mark. Johnnie Jackson highlighted how the performance demonstrated how the team can “dig in to win games against really good opposition“. Wycombe boss Michael Duff said his team were “outfought“. Highlights of the match can be found on YouTube.

Antwoine Hackford remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. It is also expected that Joe Lewis will be missing for a short while, following the aggravation of an existing rib injury on Saturday. There are no updates on the fitness or availability of Delano McCoy-Splatt and Osman Foyo, who were not in the squad against Wycombe.

We travel to Blackpool on Saturday (4 October). Kick-off is, as it should be, at 3.00pm. Wimbledon have never won away at Blackpool, who sit 21st in the league following their 2-2 draw with Luton this evening. Tickets, at £28 adults, can be bought on the Dons ticketing web site. Coach travel is available at a cost of £45: coaches depart from Waterside Way (opposite Plough Lane) at 7.30am, and Tolworth Railway Station at 7.45am.

There hasn’t been any movement from The Dons Trust Board this week. However, the deadline for this year’s elections is this Sunday (5 October) at 11.59pm. Members can vote for up to five candidates, with five places available on the Board. Election hustings are available on YouTube with all links available here.

The Women’s team have been knocked out of the Women’s National League Cup. A 1-1 draw at Actonians on Sunday (28 September), thanks to a late Rosie Russell equaliser, was not enough to get out of the group stage of the competition: their hosts topped the group, with Chelsea under-21s finishing second. Wimbledon return to league action this weekend with a trip to bottom side Billericay Town’s New Lodge Stadium on Sunday (5 October; kick-off 2.00pm).

The Womble World blog has posted their review of the season so far. The article can be found on their substack at https://wombleworld.substack.com/p/10-games-in. Rumours about who is behind the Womble World blog are circling, with the name Erik De Turkheim the current bookies favourite.

Ian Robinson joined Nick and Stu on the latest 9yrspodcast. Ian resigned from his position on The Dons Trust Board a fortnight ago, and spoke to the podcast to explain his reasons for doing so, and his frustrations whilst on the Board. The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube via this link.
