On This Day in 2014 … Victory over the Franchise for the first time. Goals from Adebayo Azeez, Sean Rigg, and Adebayo Akinfenwa earned a 3-2 win in Buckinghamshire in the Second Round of the Football League Trophy. Manager Neal Ardley dedicated the win “to the fans“, and said he was pleased his triple substitution on 65 minutes (bringing Rigg, Akinfenwa, and Matt Tubbs on) had worked. Our goals from that evening can be found on YouTube.

The win over Blackpool was our fourth consecutive victory in League One. Danilo Orsi, in for the injured Matty Stevens, scored his first league goals of the season to earn our first ever win at Bloomfield Road; his first a penalty after 38 minutes, and his second a tap-in on 63 minutes. Blackpool sacked manager Steve Bruce after the game, with the Seasiders sitting second bottom of the table. Johnnie Jackson thought we were “dominant“, with particular praise for Orsi and Patrick Bauer, who came in for the injuted Joe Lewis. The win leaves the Dons fifth in the table. Highlights of the match can be found on YouTube.

Matty Stevens will miss a few games with a hamstring injury. Antwoine Hackford is still recovering from his own hamstring strain, and Omar Bugiel seemed to feel his at Blackpool before being substituted, but we have no word on if there is an issue there other than mild embarrassment at missing a good chance. Johnnie Jackson said he “hoped” Joe Lewis would have been available at Blackpool, but he was not in the squad, and there is no further update on his condition at this time. A recurring rib problem might necessitate a longer spell out of action, to ensure a full recovery.

Myles Hippolyte and Ryan Johnson are on international duty this week. They will both miss the home game with Port Vale this Saturday (11 October; 3.00pm) as they are in action for Grenada and Northern Ireland respectively.

Osman Foyo has been suspended by the FA for gambling offences. Foyo, 21, was handed a five-month suspension, but four of those months have been suspended and he will be eligible for selection from 2 November. Foyo was found guilty of placing 252 bets on football matches in an eighteen-month spell from 2023 to 2025.

The results of the 2025 Dons Trust Elections have been announced. In all, 1,660 members voted, with Chris Atkinson (991 votes), Martin Drake (932), and Alex Folkes (890) elected to serve three-year terms, and Simon Hood (839) and James Ledward (756) elected to serve two-year terms. Turnout was 23 per cent. Full results can be found on the Trust web site.

Voting for the club’s Goal and Player of the Month awards for September has begun. Omar Bugiel, Myles Hippolyte, Jake Reeves, Steve Seddon, and Matty Stevens are in the running for the player award; the nominations for Goal of the Month can be found on the official web site.

The Women’s team won their first league game of the season on Sunday. They beat Billericay Town 3-1 at New Lodge with goals from Rosie Russell (4′) and Ashlee Hincks (5′, 70′), with the hosts netting a consolation 15 minutes from time. The win takes the Dons up to 10th place in the National League Premier Division South. They host ninth-placed Cheltenham Town on Sunday (12 October); kick-off at Imperial Fields is at 2.00pm and tickets are available online.

The latest Same Old Wombles podcast is available now. The boys review the win at Blackpool and talk about some other issues around football at the moment. The show is available at the Same Old Wombles web site.
