On This Day in 1995 … Jason Euell scored on his league debut for the Dons, but could not prevent them from losing to Southampton. Euell, 18, who had featured in InterToto Cup action months earlier, got his chance due to an injury crisis at the club, but acrobatic equaliser after 63 minutes justified his inclusion. However, future Don Neil Shipperley got the upper hand on the day, with his brace taking all three points for the visitors. Euell’s goal can be found on YouTube.

Saturday’s loss to Burton Albion was the Dons first defeat at Plough Lane since August. It ended an unbeaten run of six games in League One, and knocked Wimbledon down to fifth in the table. Johnnie Jackson said his side “didn’t do enough” to win the game, but thought a draw would have been a “fair result”. Gary Bowyer, whose side took all three points thanks to Alex Hartridge’s header five minutes into the second half, was delighted with the chances his side created, and their defensive resilience in the last half hour. However, had Omar Bugiel not seen his 32nd minute penalty saved by Bradley Collins, the outcome might have been different. Highlights of the match can be found on YouTube.

The Dons are now sixth in the table, following midweek results. Stockport County’s 3-0 win at Port Vale on Monday night had moved Wimbledon to fifth; Lincoln City moved above us this evening by taking a point away at Bradford City (0-0).

Wimbledon return to third tier action on Saturday 8 November, away at Peterborough United. Peterborough sit bottom of the table after their 2-1 defeat at home to Blackpool on Saturday; Darren Ferguson was sacked as manager at London Road after the game. Kai Jennings scored for Sutton United on Saturday. Jennings joined the National League side on loan last week, and will be at Gander Green Lane until January. His goal had put Sutton 2-0 up away at Wealdstone, but his side went on to lose 4-2 and now sit rock bottom of the fifth tier. Highlights of the game are available on YouTube.

The under-18s host Colchester United tomorrow night in the FA Youth Cup. The First Round game is a 7.00pm kick-off at Plough Lane. Tickets are priced at £5 adults and £1 concession, and are available online now.

AFC Wimbledon Women were knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday. They lost 4-2 on penalties to Chatham Town, following a 3-3 draw in normal time. A full report can be found on the official web site. They are back in Women’s National League action this Sunday aginst Bournemouth at Plough Lane (Sunday 1 November; kick-off 2.00pm). Bournemouth are currently second in the table; the Dons sit third from bottom as finances come into play in the division this year. Visit the Dons ticketing web site to book for Sunday.
