On This Day in 1998 … Wimbledon came from 3-0 down to beat West Ham United 4-3 at Upton Park. Goals from John Hartson and Ian Wright (2) inside the first half-hour looked to have condemned the Dons to their first defeat of the fledgling Premier League campaign, but Marcus Gayle reduced arrears before the break, and scored again to equalise with 15 minutes remaining. Then, inside the last 10 minutes, a counter-attack allowed Jason Euell, scorer of Wimbledon’s second goal on the night, to cross for wantaway striker Efan Ekoku to complete a most memorable comeback in front of a crowd of 25,311. All seven goals from the evening can be viewed here.

Johnnie Jackson said Saturday’s loss at Bolton Wanderers was a “bad day”. The Dons had two players sent-off in the 3-0 defeat at the Burnden Park Stadium, and Jackson observed that, “everything that could go wrong, went wrong“. Mason Burstow (29′) gave Bolton a 1-0 lead at half-time, and goals early in the second-half from Amario Cozier-Duberry (53′) and Joel Randall (62′) took the game away from the Dons before they could properly adjust to having Marcus Browne sent-off in the 50th minute. Jackson had no complaints about the red card, but had more sympathy for Joe Lewis, who was dismissed in the final minute after collecting a second booking for a shoulder barge on Marcus Forss. Bolton boss Steven Schumacher didn’t think side played as well as they have so far this season, and acknowledged Browne’s sending off changed the game. Highlights can be found on YouTube.

Our next League One fixture is against Rotherham United at Plough Lane on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3.00pm and tickets can be bought on the Dons ticketing web site. In ten meetings in the Football League since 2011, the Dons have beaten Rotherham just once (3-1 in 2017), losing eight.

The club have posted an August update on a range of important matters. The update includes news that Vice-Presidents and Patrons have donated roughly £300,000 to the club, and that reductions on Bond repayments have hit roughly £615,000. The article on the official web site also discusses catering at the stadium, and the new ticket resale system.

Ryan Johnson was an unused substitue for both Northern Ireland games this week. Ireland beat Luxembourg 3-1 last Thursday, but lost 3-1 to Germany in Cologne on Sunday. They sit second in their World Cup Qualification group.

The Women’s team beat Maidenhead United 6-1 on Sunday. It leaves the Dons second in the Women’s National League Cup Group G table, having lost to Chelsea under-21s in the first game of the group. A full report of the match at Imperial Fields can be found on the official web site. The women’s team travel to Plymouth Argyle on Sunday (14 September; kick-off 2.00pm) in search of their first league win of the season. The game will take place at Home Park with tickets available here.

SDS London now sponsor the club’s Goal and Player of the Month awards. The nominations for both awards are now listed on the official web site. The contenders for POTM are Nathan Asiimwe, Nathan Bishop, Marcus Browne, Steve Seddon, and Matty Stevens. Antwoine Hackford appears to be the front-runner for GOTM, with two goals (against Gillingham and Barnsley) in the nominations list.

Mick Dore’s latest blog post is available now. Mick looks at the defeat at Bolton, and suggests reasons as to why we have started to leak goals. Read the article here.
