On This Day in 2017 … Lyle Taylor’s goal was enough for the Dons to beat Lincoln City in the First Round of the FA Cup. Lincoln had made it to the Quarter-Final as a non-league side the previous season, finally succumbing 5-0 to Arsenal having won away at Premier League Burnley in the Fifth Round. They went on to win promotion back to the Football League that season, but could not recreate their cup heroics in this limp defeat. Wimbledon would make the Third Round – losing 3-0 to Tottenham at Wembley. Taylor’s goal can be found on YouTube.

The Dons have now lost four consecutive games against National League opposition. Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Gateshead in the First Round of The FA Cup means Wimbledon will not be in the Second Round of the competition for the first time since 2019, and for only the second time in 10 seasons. Johnnie Jackson was unhappy with his players, believeing they had thought they “only had to turn up to win.” Gateshead boss Alun Armstrong spoke highly of his players and said the game had gone “exactly how they planned it“. The win was sealed with goals in both halves from Kain Adom (32′) and Fenton John (50′). Highlights of the match can be found on the BBC web site. Gateshead host Walsall in the next round.

Wimbledon return to league action on Saturday (8 November), away at Peterborough United. Peterborough, bottom of the table, beat Cardiff City in the cup on Saturday in what was Luke Williams’s first game as manager. Tickets, priced £28 adults, are available to buy online now.

Our home game with Stockport County has been postponed. The fixture was due to be played on Saturday 15 November, but will have to be rearranged as we have received three international call-ups for fixtures being played that week.

AFC Wimbledon Women lost 5-0 at home to AFC Bournemouth on Sunday. The result leaves the Dons second bottom of the Women’s National League Premier Division South; Bournemouth now top the table. There is now a two-week break from action, with the team heading down to Exeter City for their next fixture on Sunday 16 November.
