Shrewsbury’s draw at Coventry yesterday has confirmed their survival. Three from Wycombe, Southend, Plymouth, Walsall, Scunthorpe, and ourselves will go down on Saturday. Wycombe are very long shots given goal difference, so realistically it is three from five.

Yesterday’s win means we are out of the relegation zone for the first time in 189 days. We have lost just once in our last 11 games, and are two points clear of the bottom four. Wycombe are a point above us and could still be relegated, but it would take a huge swing in goal difference for that to happen.

Wally Downes said victory over Wycombe was down to our defending. Talking on iFollow, he said: “The key to the victory was being able to defend when we had to. We knew in the second-half with Bayo up front that they would be hitting long balls and we would have to deal with it. I felt that we dealt with it very well.”

Gareth Ainsworth believes Wally Downes has “turned Wimbledon around”. Talking to Wycombe’s official web site, the Chairboys manager said: “Wally’s done a fantastic job. They looked dead and buried at one stage, but make no mistake about it – we’ll need to be at our best, be competitive, and make sure we stay in the game at all times to get anything from it (tomorrow’s game).”

Joe Pigott says the squad is confident about getting two wins from the last two games. Speaking to iFollow about tomorrow’s game with Wycombe, he said: “It would be another step closer to the points tally that we need. It’s absolutely huge. Results at home in the last few weeks have been pretty frustrating, taking the lead and conceding equalisers. We will be looking to win.”
